Juraidini 1 Justin Juraidini Farmer AP European History January 30, 2013 ?Luther? Reaction Paper The movie "Luther" is based on Martin Luther's life and the impact he had on the Catholic Church. Throughout the movie Martin Luther takes it upon himself to find truth pertaining to salvation and preaches his ideas and thoughts to the people of Wittenberg. Martin Luther disagreed with aspects of Roman Catholic religious practices, especially the sale of indulgences, religious corruption, and the emphasis on salvation through good works. He took action by posting and distributing his 95 theses and left a lasting legacy by sparking a religious movement, creating a new sect of faith, and later motivating reform to the Roman Catholic Church.

I. The Black Death (1347) A. Causes: 1. Bubonic plague was carried by fleas on Asian black rats and brought to Europe on ships returning from Asia 2. Overcrowding in cities and homes facilitated the spread of the disease Many aristocratic families slept in one room and many prosperous peasant families slept in one bed for warmth; less prosperous peasants were even worse off 3. Poor sanitation in cities: garbage-filled streets, human excrement, and dead animals 4. Widespread malnutrition prior to the plague led to poor health (e.g. lower immune systems) that made people more susceptible to the disease 25% harvests in early 14th century were poor as torrential rains destroyed wheat, oats, and hay crops; some instances of cannibalism occurred

NAPOLEON ERA TERMS Oligarchy- is a form of power structure in which power effectively rests with a small number of people. These people could be distinguished by royalty, wealth, family ties, education, corporate, or military control. Admiral Horatio Nelson- was a flag officer famous for his service in the Royal Navy, particularly during the Napoleonic Wars. Of his several victories, the best known and most notable was the Battle of Trafalgar in 1805, during which he was shot and killed. Rosetta Stone- an ancient Egyptian granodiorite stele inscribed with a decree issued at Memphis in 196 BC on behalf of King Ptolemy?V. The decree appears in three scripts: the upper text is Ancient Egyptian hieroglyphs, the middle portion Demotic script, and the lowest Ancient Greek.
