Lazarus Valenzuela AP European History Period 1 28 September 2012 Political and Social Consequences of the Protestant Reformation During the First Half of the 16th Century The Protestant Reformation had many consequences during the first half of the 16th century in terms of political and social matters. Politically, the teachings of Martin Luther and John Calvin not only had great influence on Europe as a whole, but especially concerning German princes and the populace of their domains. Socially, the Protestant Reformation caused great changes regarding the splitting of Christianity into many different parts; and education in the matter of peasants and women. The protestant reformation was also the direct cause of the Catholic reformation.

Juraidini 1 Justin Juraidini Farmer AP European History January 30, 2013 ?Luther? Reaction Paper The movie "Luther" is based on Martin Luther's life and the impact he had on the Catholic Church. Throughout the movie Martin Luther takes it upon himself to find truth pertaining to salvation and preaches his ideas and thoughts to the people of Wittenberg. Martin Luther disagreed with aspects of Roman Catholic religious practices, especially the sale of indulgences, religious corruption, and the emphasis on salvation through good works. He took action by posting and distributing his 95 theses and left a lasting legacy by sparking a religious movement, creating a new sect of faith, and later motivating reform to the Roman Catholic Church.

LUTHERANISM Pope Leo X was a Medici. He got his position of Pope through Nepotism. He was pope from 1513 to 1521. Leo X was the pope who granted indulgences to those who donated to Peter?s Pence. Leo X challenged Martin Luther and his 95 Theses and when Luther went against Tetzel when it came to indulgence, Leo X said it was simply a ?monk?s quarrel?. Once Luther?s 95 Theses became more wide spread and known, he excommunicated Luther.

I will become a monk!"), and came through without harm; he wrote his father that the thunderstorm and vow were the will of God 1508 Julius pressured Michelangelo to paint the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel; 1509? Henry VIII and Catherine of Aragon are married. 1514 Erasmus published another edition of The Praise of Folly. 1515 Thomas Wolsey, Archbishop of York, became Lord Chancellor of England and a Cardinal. 1515 Francois I was King of France to 1547.
