Biological communities differ in the types and numbers of species they contain and the ecological roles those species play. ??Species diversity: the number of different species it contains (species richness) combined with the abundance of individuals within each of those species (species evenness). America received more land but England got the Halifax-Quebec route.Patched up the Carolina Affair of 1837. John C. Calhoun: Opposed Polk's high-handedness, avid Southern slave-owner. (Right to own property, slaves considered property) Martin Van Buren: Accepted name for a group of Democratic party politicians. Their activities centered in Albany. Leader of so-called Albany Regency. Helped create one of the modern party organizations in the United States. Osceola: When the Seminoles agreed to a settlement by which they ceded their land to the United States.

Ch. 12 terms AMSCO Manifest destiny- is a term that was used in the 19th century to appoint the belief that the US was destined to expand across the North American continent. The term first appeared in print in 1839 and was used by a New York journalist, John L. O'Sullivan. It was used to encourage American settlement in the Great Plains and the west. Santa Anna- He was a Mexican political leader, general and President who greatly influenced early Mexican and Spanish politics and government. He first fought against the independence from Texas. A Mexican army led by Santa Anna captured the town of Goliad and attacked the Alamo in San Antonio.
