Adultery is the sin That HesTer Committed. Boston is the town in which this story takes place. Chillingworth is hester?s evil husband who is bent on revenge. Death is usually the price of the sin hester committed. England is where hester and dimmesdale planned to escape to. Father is what Dimmesdale was to pearl. Guilt is what Dimmesdale felt because of his sin. Hester is the main character in this story. Ignored by the rest of the children, pearl?s only friend was her mother hester. Judgment is what the townspeople put on hester because of her sin. Kissing dimmesdale was the last thing pearl did before he died. Letter of scarlet is what hester had to wear as her punishment. Mercy is what the townspeople showed hester when giving her the punishment.

What Is Their Meaning? Nathaniel Hawthorne uses a slew of symbols in the Scarlet Letter to show how different Hester and Dimmesdale are from the community they live in. Hawthorne uses the scarlet letter as the most recurring symbol throughout the novel. He also uses nature, such as the forest, rose bush, and meteor, and even uses people -Pearl, the "Black Man", and even Mistress Hibbins.

Abir Chowdhury 25 September 2012 Grendel Grendel is ?the man? in this work of literature. He is the obstacle which most men were faced with in this epic story. The monster Grendel is what made men run, hide in the shadows, and not come out in plain sight. There was no way to get away from Grendel as ?..the only survivors were those who fled him.? This showed that Grendel dominated the hearts and souls of those he scared by making them flee whenever he came near to them. It is described vividly how ferocious and relentless Grendel was during his killings. He was relentless on his attacks and therefore was ?the man? in this story.
