Ellen Foster is a story of a redoubtable, young girl with a very abysmal life. Her father is a bad tempered drunk whose internecine behavior caused the death of her mother and eventually his own. She then lives with the art teacher, Julia, who reveals to her the kinder side of life but this memorable and happy time is quickly replaced with a harrowing one. She has to spend her time trying to tolerate or even overcome the loathing demeanor and offensive remarks of her relatives and still try to have a vivacious childhood. Her tenaciousness evokes a sense of caring and hope that she will find a better home while her perspicacity allows the reader to sympathize with her because she knows how factious her life really is.

Some important centralizing rulers were Henry VIII and Elizabeth I of England, Louis XI and Henry IV of France, Charles V (Habsburg) of the Holy Roman Empire, Philip II of Spain and Ivan III and Ivan IV (Ivan the Terrible) of Russia.

Operation Desert Storm During Operation Desert storm the largest air assault in history along with the largest tank battle in history occurred (Nardo 58). Many national leaders held meetings to try to prevent war from happening, but obviously, none of those attempts worked as Operation Desert Storm began on January 16, 1991. Many Americans view Operation Desert Storm as a total success with triumphant air campaigns and ground campaigns, reducing Iraq as a threat to other Persian Gulf Nations, and liberation of Kuwait; however, many goals went unachieved as a result from not invading Baghdad with ground forces and removing Saddam Hussein from power.
