Egypt - Features of This Civilization and Contributions by J. Chase Introduction Ancient Egypt was one of the first complex civilizations in the ancient world. It originated new kinds of social structure, religion, and politics, and set a foundation for future societies. This essay explores the aspects of Egypt which made it one of the greatest civilizations in history. Political System In ancient Egypt, the king was the head of society and religion. The king had many responsibilities in making sure his country ran smoothly?he (or she) was the chief priest for all gods, the champion of wars, and head of administration. Below the king, each of these areas was headed by a trusted ally.
