DANGLING AND MISPLACED MODIFIERS PROFESSOR KNOWLES? 3RD PERIOD ENGLISH CLASS DANGLING MODIFIERS Dangling Modifiers are words or phrases which ?dangle? because they have no word in the sentence to describe. For Example: While taking a shower, the doorbell rang. Why is this wrong? Dangling Modifier DANGLING MODIFIERS CONTINUED? The modifier didn?t have anything to modify in the sentence. One of the correct answers this sentence is? While I was taking a shower, the door bell rang. TIPS ON FIXING DANGLING MODIFIERS By adding a noun or pronoun that is describing who actually did it: While I was taking a shower, the doorbell rang. OR While taking a shower, I heard the doorbell ring. A MISPLACED MODIFIER is placed too close to some other word that it does not want to modify.
