Chapter 32 03/18/13 The Politics of Boom and Bust 1920-1932 Key Terms Adkins v. Children?s Hospital (1923): A landmark Supreme Court decision reversing the ruling in Muller v. Oregon, which had declared women to be deserving of special protection in the workplace. Nine-Power Treaty (1922): Agreement coming out of the Washington ?Disarmament? Conference of 1921-1922 that pledged Britain, France, Italy, United States, China, Netherlands, Portugal and Belgium to abide by the Open Door Policy in China. The Five-Power Naval Treaty on ship ratios and the Four-Power Treaty to preserve the status quo in the Pacific also came out of the conference.

Europeans Enter Africa People of Europe were able to reach sub-Saharan Africa around 1450 when the Portuguese invented the caravel, a ship that should sail into the wind. This ship allowed sailors to sail back up the western coast of Africa and back to Europe. The Portuguese set up trading posts along the African beaches trading with slaves and gold, trading habits that were originally done by the Arabs and Africans. The Portuguese shipped the slaves back to Spain and Portugal where they worked on the sugar plantations.

AP U.S. History 1993 DBQ The Chesapeake and New England colonies were settled by the people of English origin. The Chesapeake and New England regions shared many similarities, these included the English language, some slavery and they were both from a joint - stock company. However there were clear features that caused the differences between the Chesapeake and New England regions. These differences were exceedingly present in the areas of geography, economics and religion.
