Before I entered college I had some misconceptions about what “pre-med” was and the work involved with it. Once I had researched everything dealing with medical school, I realized that I was headed in the wrong direction. You can learn from my mistakes!

Java Lesson 9 – Guessing Game pt.1
I think it’s about time we put all the basic stuff we’ve learned and put it practical use. I’ve decided to make our first project a guessing game. Before we jump in, let’s take a look at the game we’re making and the kind of functionality it will have. Generally, project overviews are referred to by a lot of people as design documents.
I love malicious people; their uncaring hearts are very enticing. I know they are too cool to help out the helpless puppies at the animal shelter, and I know they are too “young” to associate themselves with old people. Mixed with egoism, holy smokes—they’re almost close to perfection.
So there I was, standing in the hallway, having just exited my sophomore Algebra II teacher’s third floor room. Another make-up test over that didn’t go half as well as I had hoped it would. Well, story of my life. I had never been a great math student. In first grade, my mom used to playfully tease me that I would still be counting on my fingers in high school. And when I ran out of fingers, I would use my toes. Well, so far, my situation hadn’t become THAT dire. But I’m not saying that I’m going to become a mathematician in the near future, either.
Fortunately, life is full of surprises. Unfortunately, sometimes those surprises bring about situations you might not be prepared for. It is very easy to get your mind set on one school or one path after graduating high school. In our minds we create these wonderful circumstances that aren’t always realistic. I’m not trying to be a Debbie Downer. That’s not my objective. For some people college will be everything they ever dreamed. Tackling a job while going to school may be the best choice you’ve made, or it could turn out to work against you. Every person’s situation is different, so there isn’t a formula you can plug your life into and determine whether a job is right for you, and what job would be good for you. You have to look at your personal schedule, how much you know your body can handle, and you have to be responsible in your decision making.
Up until now, making decisions usually involved your parents input, and sometimes other adults as well. Now it’s time to step up to the plate, though. Do your parents really know what you want in a college? You’ve matured so much over the last couple years, and it is absolutely crucial to keep your parents in the loop, but nobody can make this decision for you. Take the input your parents have, they will definitely have valuable words about college.
A large misconception many college-aged students have is that it is easy to get a job right out of college related to your chosen major. The fact is, it’s not easy. In truth, very few college graduates are offered jobs in fields related to their majors right out of college, at least not without some major prep work beforehand. Even if you graduate from a top university with great grades, you’re still not guaranteed a job. Especially in this economy.
