Stricken by Tragedy

We've all had tragedies, and when I went through my first break-up, I thought my tragedy that junior year had been the up-coming Valentines Day, doubtless to say 'Valentine-less.' That was until I received news that my biological mother (as I was adopted at age 12) was deathly ill and two days following the news- had died.

Your teachers probably have mentioned the Time article explaining the negative impact Facebook can have on students. Making Myspace old news, Facebook has become the new major website very often visited and used by high school students. However, many adults feel that this time online is detrimental to a student's study habits and grades. A popular argument within the article is that active users on Facebook on average have a lower GPA than those who are not members at all.

How many of you listen to music when studying, doing homework, or working on projects? Do your parents get irritated with the fact that you have “distractions” while working? If you answered yes to either of
these questions, you fall into a group of students I like calling active learners. Listening to music while working isn’t a bad thing, in fact, it can help a person’s thought flow become focused instead of erratic.
