Linear Equations A linear equation in one variable is any equation of that may be written in the form Ax + B = C where A, B, and C are real number coefficients and x represents any real number that is a solution. Another way to define a linear equation in one variable is that the equation may always be written so that all the terms are either constants or some multiple of the variable raised to only the first power. Examples: 3(x - 3) = 2x + 5 is a linear equation since when we multiply out the left side we get the equation 3x - 9 = 2x + 5. 3/x + 4 = 5 is not a linear equation since the term 3/x is the same as 3x-1, a term with power other than 1. Method To Solve Linear Equations: To solve linear equations, remember to do the following:

Psychology- the science of behavior and mental processes. It describes and explains how we thing, feel, and act. Stemmed from growing interest in ourselves and others. Bacon + Locke= empiricism, meaning knowledge comes from experience, science needs data and experiments. Titchford brought structuralism (asks ?what??) using introspection to crack the case of the mind. It required ?smart? people so was deemed as unfit. James brought functionalism, asking questions like ?how? and ?why.?. consciousness serves a purpose!

y: y-value in point (x,y) m: slope x: x-value in point (x,y) b: y-intercept EXAMPLE: y = mx + b (–6) = (4)(–1) + b –6 = –4 + b –2 = b y = mx + b 4 = (– 2/3)(–2) + b 4 = 4/3 + b 4 – 4/3 = b 12/3 – 4/3 = b b = 8/3

First you need to multiply the number in front of the parenthesis by the first number in the parenthesis and then bring it down. Next you multiply the number on the outside by the second number of the inside of the parenthesis and bring it down and so on. Once you are done with all the multiplication, do your like terms and such. Then you are done.
