Brandon Scherr 2/18/14 1984 Reading Guide #1 In the first sentence they show the use of military time saying the clock strikes thirteen. His living quarters make it appear as if more than one person is living there. Aside from the telescreen in the corner of the room, there is a poster that says, ?Big Brother is Watching.? The government tries to control everybody through various ways, such as the telescreens, the thought police, and the police peering through windows and searching rooms. The three party slogans are: ?War is Peace?, ?Freedom is Slavery?, and ?Ignorance is Strength?. Winston hides his journal/diary that he purchased from a small shop behind the brick. Winston writes about a War movie he had seen in theatres a while back.

Through powers outlined in the Constitution of the United States of America, the federal system has had a great influence on the life of the people and the means by which the government set forth laws and the execution of those laws.

Maria Aguirre Professor Nejad June 4, 2014 President?s War Powers Article II, Section 2, of the United States Constitution, vests the president with the commander in chief power. The article reads as follows: "The president shall be Commander in Chief of the Army and Navy of the United States, and of the Militia of the several States, when called into the actual Service of the United States." The Constitution gives the president the military's commander in chief power; however Article I, Section 8, Clause 11, gives the U.S. Congress and not the president the exclusive right to?declare war. Congress has the power to determine if the country will wage offensive war and against whom. Once that decision is made, the President is in charge of waging that war.

President Lincoln had two major items in his agenda. One, the slavery (Emancipation Proclamation - Thirteenth Amendment) as a central issue of the Civil War (He viewed the Civil War as a punishment from God for the national exploitation of colored slaves); and he also kept in mind the Nation and possible reunification and reconciliation between the North and the South (Proclamation of Amnesty and Reconstruction).
