The Renaissance approx. 1300 ? 1525 POLITICAL City States: No national government Florence, Genoa, Venice Some were rule by despots (Milan) Others were controlled by condottieri, or military men who were independent war lords Florence was a republic In the later years of the Renaissance, these states warred with each other and left them prone ot outside attack. This happened when Charles V?s troops attacked in 1527, thereby ending the Renaissance in Italy. The Hapsburgs (Holy Roman Empire) face many enemies during this time. They fight with the Valois dynasty in France, and must contend with the Muslims. In 1453, the Muslims finally captured Constantinople. ECONOMIC The Medici were the merchant family based in Florence.

AP European History Study Guide The Renaissance *The Causes of the Renaissance* - The Middle Ages, which began around 500 AD, finally came to an end around 1450 AD. - Though the beginning of the Renaissance, which signaled the end of the Middle Ages, occurred in the city-states of Italy, the same reasons that caused the Renaissance to begin in Italy caused it to appear in the rest of Western Europe. - The conditions that led to the Renaissance in Italy are as follows: Because of the Crusades, and the new trade routes, Europeans began to come in contact with other, more advanced civilizations, which influenced them greatly. The Church, due to the scandals that occurred, lost much of its power, and people began to doubt its ultimate authority.

?That is incorrect?; I kept hearing Alex Trebek?s voice echoing through my head. I had overcome so many obstacles, but finally reached a roadblock. I collected myself and quietly exited through the back of the stage. I took a seat in the audience and reflected on my journey, proud that I had made it this far, but also disappointed that it had come to an end. I watched as the finalists battled it out, grimacing, as I knew the answer to every question. What if I had been one of the finalists? This is my journey to winning 3rd place in the 2013 National Geographic Bee.

AP WORLD HISTORY Continuity and Change Over Time Essays A CCOT question is similar to a comparative one, the key difference being instead of comparing between two places during the same time, one is comparing between two times, often in the same place. The structure for a CCOT thesis is simpler than for a comparative thesis, but shares the following elements: 1. It is clear ? it clearly responds to the question and is on topic. 2. It is comprehensive ? it addresses the whole prompt, and 3. It is analytical ? it establishes clear categories of ?continuity? versus ?change?. Compositionally, a CCOT essay is simpler than that of a comparative essay. Your overall structure will look something like this: I. Thesis that identifies continuities versus changes
