(1898-1921) The Anti-Imperialist League was a diverse group formed to protest American colonial oversight in the Philippines. This group consisted of university presidents, industrialists, clergymen and labor leaders. Concentrated in the Northeast, the Anti-Imperialist League was America's biggest lobbying organization on a U.S. foreign-policy issue until the end of the nineteenth century. After the United States signed the Treaty of Paris, the Anti-Imperialist League's strength began to diminish because the Treaty approved of the annexation of the Philippines).
