THE GIANT AP Euro Review The Renaissance *The Causes of the Renaissance* - The Middle Ages, which began around 500 AD, finally came to an end around 1450 AD. - Though the beginning of the Renaissance, which signaled the end of the Middle Ages, occurred in the city-states of Italy, the same reasons that caused the Renaissance to begin in Italy caused it to appear in the rest of Western Europe. - The conditions that led to the Renaissance in Italy are as follows: Because of the Crusades, and the new trade routes, Europeans began to come in contact with other, more advanced civilizations, which influenced them greatly. The Church, due to the scandals that occurred, lost much of its power, and people began to doubt its ultimate authority.

1. The Mayans had a unique culture. One such thing that I found interesting was the buildings of pyramids and their significance to religion. They viewed pyramids as a mountain to heaven. Also, they had sacred trees that showed a small insight to their religion. It was a visual representation of where one goes when they die. The roots of a tree are underground and depicts the under world and the branches of a tree are high up in the air and depict the heavens. Kings were significant in religion and they decorated themselves with tattoos and piercings to show their divinity but also secular power. Blood shedding rituals were also done by kings to talk to the dead.
