Pretty straight forward. I consider myself to be an independent, but leaning to the conservative side of things. A little libertarian in me, too.

First of all, give me a specific reason that Gore would have been a better choice when it comes to the 9/11 issue than Bush.
Why don't we pull out of Iraq? I have a couple of very specific reasons, none of which are political.
1. If we were to pull out, a warlord as bad or worse than Sadaam would come to power, and he would put just as many people into danger as they are in now.
2. The Iraqi army is not well trained enough yet. The US army has had a long time to be as trained as well as they have been, the Iraqi army less than two years. Give them some time.
Now, I don't know if you have heard about this, but our friend in Iraq Mr. al-Zarqawi recently wrote a letter to a comrade in which he stated his intent to destroy America, and, in the end take over the world. He stated that the first step to this plan was getting America out of Iraq. Now, to me, that sounds an awful lot like Mein Kumpf (since everyone has stated so many times that they know history, I shouldn't have to explain what that is). Why should we allow another dictator bound person to get a hold. Mind you, Hitler was not the only one to write such dillusions of grandeur, Mao, Ho, Lenin, and several others also wrote out a step by step plan of how they were going to take over the world. Should we really let another madman get a hold on the world before we step in like WWII?
War is justified when we go to save the lives of those that cannot defend themselves. If you recall, something like that was stated in the Declaration of Independence. A call for all those that could do something about tyranny to do something about it. Why is it that liberals have such selective memories? I say, as I have said before, if you want to pull out of Iraq, pull out of DC first! We will decrease our deathcount faster that way!

I just want to be clear. Are you saying something along the lines of the end justifies the means?

The End justifies the means makes sense to me.

That credo is what got the Nixon administration in trouble...

The ends justify the means? I would say no, the ends do not justify the means, but this scenario is no different than a government putting a murderer in jail or executing him (not that I'm trying to start a death penalty debate here). The government takes out someone that is a danger to society to make society as a whole. This is the same principle only on a much larger scale. Sadaam was a danger to the society of the world and he needed to be taken out before he could become a big danger. Like Hitler. Or Lenin. Or bin Laden. Or anyone like that.

I do agree that Sadaam was a menace who needed to be taken out of power, but do not by any means mistake this for a secession. I believe that there are many ways of taking a man out of power. Starting a war should be a LAST resort, not one of the first. America is the supposed capital of the free world. How does it look when the leading democratic nation starts a war that almost none of the major allies agreed with, and most of those few dozen nations who helped us do not count. You cannot tell me that there weren't other ways to take him down by stealth.
Plus, have you seen the places where we tried to bring democracy by force. Some embraced it, but some went straight back to their previous political structures. A nation that is not ready for democracy will not have one for very long. What makes us think that Iraq is ready?
