AP Human Geography Outline notes: Chapter one Section one: Thinking Geographically Maps Maps have two purposes: a tool for storing references material and a tool for communicating geographic information. For reference use, we use maps to find the distance between two places, or where something is, in relation to another place. As a communication tool, a map is used for depicting human activities, or physical features. A series of maps of the same place over several years can show dynamic processes. Placing information on a map is the main way for geographers to share data results, or scientific analysis. Early Mapmaking The earliest surviving maps were drawn on clay tablets by Babylonians in 2300 B.C.

Lab 6-1 Catherine Puga Paradichlorobenzene has a very strong odor while potassium iodide does not. PDCB(paradichlorobenzene) is more volatile then potassium iodide. Volatile means that the molecular substance can evaporate easily and when it evaporates, it lets off a strong smell. A substances ability to evaporate depends on the strength of its bonds. Potassium iodide had ionic bonds whereas PDCB has London Dispersion Forces. LDF?s are the weakest type of intermolecular bonds; therefore, PDCB evaporates easier so it has a stronger odor.
